10 Long distance relationship questions: Fun conversation starters

10 questions for your long distance love

One of the ongoing struggles of a long distance relationship is keeping things fun, fresh and interesting when you’re separated by the miles.

Thanks to being miles apart, you’re limited to phone calls, FaceTime conversations and text monologues. Okay, and nudes. All this communication is fantastic, but it can be really frustrating to feel like this is all that your relationship is made up of.

And you might sometimes find that, even though you’re desperate to be together, you’re not sure what to talk about.

The conversation runs dry. There’s only so many times you can say you miss each other, love one another, and can’t wait until your next visit.

And when the conversations runs dry, it’s terrifying. Your mind starts to wander, and you think things like “Are we done?”

The answer is “No”, it doesn’t mean you’re done. It just means you need to find something new to talk about.

So if you’re struggling with the distance and want to think of some fun ways to liven up the conversation during those lulls, we suggest you ask each other questions to get new discussions going.

What sort of questions?

Go nuts!

Funny, probing, even downright random questions. You’ll get to joke and laugh, and even better, learn something new about your significant other.

This is our list of 10 questions to ask each other to keep the fun conversations going:

  1. What 3 items would you take with you on a stranded island? This one might seem cliche, but it’s actually a great way to learn about the things your love treasures the most.
  2. What was your most embarrassing moment? This is a classic one for getting a good laugh and learning about what makes your partner tick.
  3. If you could do anything with your life, money being no object, what would you do? Gets your partner thinking and you discover what their deepest wishes are.
  4. What was the worst date you ever had? Another amusing one, but also a great way to find out what kind of date not to plan for bae.
  5. If you only had to eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be and why? Another great way to find out some prime information, like what to cook for them when they next come to visit!
  6. What do you think is your spirit animal and why? The “why” is the really fun part here, and this is a different way for getting your love to talk about some of their qualities you may not know about, and why they see themselves in certain ways.
  7. Screw, marry or kill? Okay we’re kind of cheating here because this isn’t exactly one question, but it’s a game based off a series of questions. The rules are simple: think of three famous people (or even people you know, if you want to get risky) and make your partner say which they’d marry, which they’d sleep with, and which they’d kill). We’ve had hours of laughs with this game.
  8. Which “Friend” are you? We might be showing our age here, but really this could work with any iconic TV show. Simply share which character from Friends you think you are, and why.
  9. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? One of the things about loving someone is that you kind of wish you’d been around to see them as a funny, cute, awkward little kid. Asking questions about their childhood is a surefire way to get some insight.
  10. What’s something you love that other people think is weird? We may hate to admit it but let’s be honest, we all have a guilty pleasure. It may or may not be a secret fondness for Rick Astley, or cheese 80s movies, or even bizarre food choices like putting butter on dry Weetabix, but we all have something – and this question gives you hours, maybe even years, of mocking.
We’re as disgusted as you are
